Thinking about scheduling your LASIK surgery? You won’t regret it.
What’s not to love about a lifetime of perfect vision? You can finally say goodbye to your glasses and contact lenses. You can even wake up in the morning and be able to see everything around you!
But one thing that

you need to keep in mind is that there’s a recovery period after having LASIK. Keep reading to learn more about how to make your LASIK recovery breeze!

What LASIK Is Like

When you have LASIK, you’ll be able to go home the same day, meaning LASIK is an outpatient procedure. Before it starts, you’ll have your eyes numbed.
This is to make sure you don’t feel any pain during the procedure. Feeling nervous? Let your surgeon know and they’ll give you something to relax like Valium.
LASIK only takes about twenty to thirty minutes to perform but you’ll be at Chesen Laser Eye Center for a few hours. LASIK involves reshaping your cornea which corrects your vision. Most patients end up with 20/20 vision or better after LASIK!
Once the procedure is over, your vision may already be clearer or it may take a few more days. Usually, within 2-3 days, you’ll start seeing improvements. After LASIK, it’s important to follow any and all instructions your eye doctor gives you!

Relax

The first and most important rule to LASIK recovery is to take it easy. Don’t do any heavy lifting, yard work, or cleaning around the house.
Stick to this for at least the first week of your LASIK recovery. You won’t be able to drive until your eye doctor clears you to.
Your eyes may be sore, irritated, red, or dry as you recover. All of these symptoms are normal. They should start going away after a few days. In the meantime, it is important that you just relax.
Strenuous activity can cause stress on your eyes. This stress can be harmful when your eyes are recovering. So sit back, kick up your feet, and relax.

Don’t Read Small Print

Reading is a great way to pass the time. It is also a great way to relax. But if you’re recovering after LASIK, you probably shouldn’t be doing too much reading, at least not right away.
Many books and magazines are in small print. This small print may cause you eye strain as you recover after LASIK.
Opt for audiobooks, music, and television until your eyes have fully recovered.

Light Exercise Only

Feeling a little stir crazy after LASIK? Get out and enjoy a nice mid-day walk around the neighborhood.
When it comes to exercise during LASIK recovery, you don’t want to overdo it. Many exercises will make you strain your eyes, even if you don’t mean them to. This includes lifting weights and sports.
You may think that cardio like running or biking would be okay, but avoid this as well. Sweating while you’re recovering from LASIK is not a good idea.
Stick to light exercising like walking until your eye doctor tells you otherwise. So by all means, get some air. Stretch your legs. But keep it light.

Limit Your Screen Time

Electronic screens emit what is called “blue light.” This is a type of artificial light UV light.
It can cause eye strain and be harmful to your eyes if you are exposed to too much of it. This is especially true during your LASIK recovery.
Light computer work like checking your email is fine, but do your best to limit your screen time. This will keep your eyes from getting strained.
